SAJC Rhythymic Gymnastics
July 9th, 2009 | by elsa |While many of us were safely ensconced in air conditioned comfort on Friday the 17th of April, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Team of SAJC and quite a few SA supporters, were sweating it out in Yishun Sports Complex.
In this particular competition, the ‘A’ division Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, the Team SAJC rhythmic gymnasts were performing in 3 individual events - the hoop, ball and rope events, for a group of more than ten judges and about 200 spectators. According to team captain, Samantha Neubronner of 08A06, although there have been a few rhythmic gym competitions this year, this particular competition is their ‘biggest’ and ‘most important’ for the whole year. The R. Gym team has been training intensively for 3 months to prepare for the ‘A’ divs, hoping to surpass the performance of their seniors.
Undoubtly an intense and long-drawn event, the Team SAJC R.Gymnasts held their ground against R.Gym powerhouses, Raffles (Institution) JC and CJC, emerging triumphant amidst the immense pressure of competition and performing for a hall full of spectators.
The Team SAJC R.Gymnasts emerged from Yishun Sports Hall later that afternoon as overall Champions, clinching 3 golds, 4 silvers and a bronze from the 11 events they participated in.
Obtaining the much coveted Champion trophy and at the same time, pulling the rug out from under RIJC and CJC, does indeed elicit a sense of satisfaction to be relished by all Saints. Thus, the day ended with SAJC R.Gymnasts and supporters, leaving Yishun Sports Complex, the smell of hairspray and copious amounts of body glitter behind for the glory of triumph and the hopes for more golds to come!
